Artist Statement


I always loved the dynamics behind science and how it broke down just about every aspect in the world. The discovery and the questioning of everything in existence gifted me with a need of curiosity about the world and the universe itself. Ironically, the one thing I never did was question myself and ask "who is it that I want to become". I decided to explore the world from an artistic point of view rather than the logical way that I was accustomed to. This exploration led me to the world of film production and screenwriting.

I learned to truly appreciate what it was to be able to create something out of nothing. However, compared to the other forms of artistic expression film and screenwriting have a unique touch which makes them very special to me. It is the challenge of telling a compelling story though a moving visual media. However, that story can simply be just a story to an audience but to the creator of that story that world becomes real. Their own truths, experiences, emotions, everything that makes that person who they are manifests itself through their story. It is through that medium that I have been able to have a voice of my own, a real way to show and tell the world how I feel, my truths, my experiences, my perspective of the universe. Life is already hard as it, some more than others, but my way of identifying the world around me is through film and screenwriting. One thing is to study the universe, but I find more personal fulfillment in creating one for others to enjoy.

Semester Experience

This semester has been completely different compared to any other semester by far. Not only due to the COVID-19 pandemic (which is a huge factor) but also because of the types of projects and ideas that had to be adapted during these times. Being imprisoned in my home didn't affect my creativity as much but it did push me to find different methods of tackling the projects. The hardware available at school is better than the ones I have in my personal possession however, I learned that I can still present and work on quality projects without advanced equipment. I can still deliver a compelling story and great narration without the use of such technology. Defining a Space

     In this assignment my partner Amanda and I have decided to present a story using the smoking area located outside of the East Building at Hunter. A story about the rare and ironic moments in which people manage to take a break within the busy city. The juxtaposition of both the smokers and the regular commuters being just feet away from each other should present some interesting shots. The point of the project isn't to condone whether smoking is bad for you; instead it about comparing those taking a moment to sit within the perpetual motion of Manhattan.      The weather itself could be a challenge since people might not be outside. People also don't act as natural when they know they are being recorded. Some of the shots themselves might be difficult to capture, especially if we are in the way of the commuters on the sidewalk.
